WATER
by Nathalie Kenfak
You are beautiful
You shower the Earth on rainy days
Carpet it white on snowy days
You wrap the atmosphere in a white blanket on foggy days
Get trapped in glaciers but don't mind
You flow freely in streams, rivers and lakes
Ponds, swamps, oceans and seas, to name but a few.
You are invincible
A very strong wind transports you from the sea to the land
Displacing things along the way
The current throws you on the shore
But you always find your way back for sure
In very low temperatures, you get icy
In very high temperatures, you get steamy
But in between you flow.
You can freeze
You can evaporate
But you can't be killed.
You are indispensable
Air needs you for its moisture
Plants need you to stand tall
Animals need you for their survival
Soil needs you to quench its thirst
Humans need you to stay healthy.
You are unique
Many words exist because of you
"Washing" as you purify us
"Showering" as you drizzle down on us
"Bathing" as you cover us in your embrace.
Only you can appear in all states
As a solid, as a liquid and as a gas
Though transparent in your liquid form
You can mirror your environment
You change colours and shapes in your solid form as you see fit.
You are used in farming
You are used in construction
You are used in manufacturing
You are used to generate power and electricity
You are used to fight fire.
You help to clean
You help to transport
You help to relax and entertain
You help to sustain life
How can we show you our appreciation?
